If your air conditioner is leaking water on the outside, there is no cause for alarm. A small amount of leakage is normal; however, if there is a considerable puddle, it may indicate an issue with your unit. The temperature setting on your unit and the outdoor temperature will determine how much water you should see. A small puddle of condensation near the drainpipe or underneath your air conditioner’s condenser unit is normal on extremely hot or humid days. The best way to tell if there is an issue is by recognising that your unit should only leak while operating, if the water leak persists, there may be a problem.

If there is an issue, there are several situations that may cause it, including:

  • Dirty air filters
  • A broken condensate pan
  • A blockage in the drain pipe
  • Cold outdoor temperatures
  • Low refrigerant levels
